MIRIAM SCHWACK: ANALYSIS

paintings, drawings

Colourful paintings, disturbing acting - strange figures, naked, often damaged bodies, portraits of sleepers and scared people, references to sexual activity - all of these are included in the paintings of the Austrian artist Miriam Schwack. But we can also find a more relaxed and pensive mood in this exhibition called Analysis - e.g. her paintings dedicated to South Bohemia in the series Šumava and in the painting called simply Český Krumlov.

The artist says about her work: "One thing is completely clear to me, the aim is not the process of doing it, the important thing is the result. The picture has to be independent of the history of its creation. Of course, we cannot wipe the knowledge of the history away but I take it as an enrichment. The concept is here to prevent confusion and the puzzlement of the artist. This is my point of view, at least in terms of painting."

Part of the exhibition is also an object called Mystery, which is easy to overlook in a gallery space. When you approach the wooden box, you can find vistas and the audience can observe a tableau through them. These tableaux - Mysteries were arranged by Schwack´s guests, using childrens‘ toys.

The exposition is part of a series of independent exhibitions called Intimissimo!
